Posted August 24, 200420 yr I'm having problems installing Win 89 on a laptop with a AMD Athlon64 chip, from what i can gather these problems are not uncommon, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Sam101
August 27, 200420 yr Since you've obviously spent a bit of money already on getting that 64 chip (and its accompanying hardware), why don't you just fork out a bit more for XP? There shouldn't be any compatibility issues. Plus, you can actually take advantage of 64. Have you ever realised that anyone driving faster than you is an idiot and anyone driving slower than you is a loser?
August 29, 200420 yr Author Ahh alas tis not me but a friend, i do not possess the acumen to own such a coveted device, said friend is dead set in the past and has uninstalled xp in favour of 98 and run into issues.
August 29, 200420 yr well, if he/she really likes it that much, can't they just switch to the "classic windows" theme? that theme doesn't make it too different from the win98 one Have you ever realised that anyone driving faster than you is an idiot and anyone driving slower than you is a loser?
August 30, 200420 yr There are many differences between 98 and XP beyond the theme; XP is simply broken for some applications. Also, there is not yet a build of XP that takes advantage of AMD-64 instructions (there is simply a version on the horizon, awaiting the release of Intel's 64-bit chip) -The Gavster Three students died that year at the academy; one was executed, one was killed in a training accident, and one died of natural causes, for a knife to back will naturally kill anyone. -RA Salvatore Like to IRC?
