tangone Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 Being new to computers, I could use some help with a CPU problem. Following a reinstallation repair with Dell Tech, my computer now is a uniprocessor machine according to the task manager and the device manager. The task manager's performance tab now lists only one graph showing CPU usage history. The device manager also lists only one CPU now. Both were not the case prior to reinstallation repair. Dell Tech insists for the last 3 months that that is normal and everything is functioning and hyper threading is working. Wanting to find out, I have had no luck at Microsoft,Intel, the web,and another posting site. Could it be that hyper threading needs to be enabled? I can find no info on this. If anyone has encountered this problem I could sure use some advise. My Specs. Dell Dimension 8300 OS windows XP Professional, CPU Intel Pentium 4 2.60ghz, 120gb hard drive, 512mb memory, video card 128mb DDR ATI Radeon 9800, monitor Dell 1800FP (digital), Sound card Sound Blaster Audigy 2, speakers 5.1 Altec Lansing ADA995, DVD-ROM Samsung SD-616T, DVD+RW NEC ND1100A combo. My computer wii be a year old on July 2004. Any info will be gratefully appreciated. Quote

Hi Bob, Thanks for your tip. I can see that some reading about Bios is in my future since I don't know a thing about accessing the Bios. Hopefully I can do this by the weekend. Thanks again! Quote
