excaliber Posted December 19, 2003 Posted December 19, 2003 The new XP SP2 Beta is now out. Apparently, its more like an OS refresh than a service pack. Only open to MSDN testers though :( http://www.infoworld.com/article/03/12/18/HNsp2_1.html Quote -Zach "It's a flat file masquerading as a relational engine. FPCH Admin AWS Posted December 19, 2003 FPCH Admin Posted December 19, 2003 One thing it does is lockdown your net connection. It turns the firewall on. It also fixes the problems with DCOM once and for all. I've had it installed since last night on my devel box. No problems so far. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest

GavinO Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Speaking of the XP firewall, is it now actually configurable, or does it still block everything but web browsing and email? (I've never been able to game online with the thing on). FPCH Admin AWS Posted March 29, 2004 FPCH Admin Posted March 29, 2004 It's configurable. If a program tries to access the internet it will prompt you to ask for permissions. It has really come a long way. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
vbFace Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 You can still turn off the MS Firewall or course ... right? You mean it just defaults to on? Quote
