I can't get sound to come through my headphones

Usually, when playing sound on my laptop, once I plug in my headphones, the sound stops coming through the speakers and only comes through my headphones. Yesterday I installed skype. Now, when I play a video on my computer, the sound always comes through the speakers regardless of whether my headphones are pluged in. When I start skype, all of that sound comes through my headphones, but all other sounds still come through the speakers.

 

 

I'm guessing if I uninstall skype, that will solve he problem, but I'd rather keep skype and figure out how to resolve this issue. This happens both when skype is active and when I quit the application.
