Can't open files "Cant open this item, it might have been moved renamed or deleted."

Original Title: Automatic repair messed with my computer!

 

 

So pretty much what has happened is I was installing 8.1 but something obviously went wrong as it went to automatic repair so I did the restore but when I go to the desktop I just see 1 folder and the normal things that come with it, I havent lost my files and such but when I click an icon down the bottom it comes up with the message "Cant open this item, it might have been moved renamed or deleted. Point is this is really annoying as I have to go into search to find things, also my windows defender has been turned off and wll not turn on. I also cannot wirelessly connect to the internet but my laptop doesnt have a spot to put the ethernet cord which its telling me I need. Does this normally happen? How can I access internet wirelessly again? And can I fix the icon problem?
