Are you planning on moving to China or Cuba soon? They love the idea

of strictly controlling who can do and say what. Break the rules, who

knows, the punishment varies from an all expense paid vacation in some

cold dank prison cell for a dozen years or so while you undergo

intensive retraining to respect the absolute powers of the state to

just trotting you out into the parking lot to meet a firing squad

after having a staged show trial that before it began already

concluded you were guilty.

Newsgroups are one of the last remaining beacons of free speech. This

newsgroup doesn't need some wannabe be hall monitor, whistle blower,

net cop or blowhard deciding what is or isn't appropriate. You see

that's exactly why out of the 100,000 plus newsgroups there are, only

a tiny handful are moderated.

Fools like Jupiter are just trying to impose themselves as you

"leader" and as often as such idiots claim otherwise their actions

confirm what Bozo's like him are all about which is CONTROL and he is

itching to have control so he can pontificate even more than he

already does. Ain't going to happen.

I paid nothing for it, of course, and I rely on usenet for tech support

for ALL hardware and software issues, it's far and away the best

source.

You mean "fakers" who can properly install and run Vista (multiple

installs) whereas you, mr computer expert, can't even get his one little

upgraded install of Vista business to run correctly.

Is that what you're talking about mr genius?

Yeah, we get your level of knowledge and expertise ok. Bottom of the

Manual? Are you kidding? Just bought 2 new laptops with Vista a couple

months ago. Didn't get any frickin' manuals. I doubt you did either.

But I do go to to Help when I have a question. And if that doesn't

answer my question, then I go on line and Google and then ask in a

newsgroup. I don't always get my questions answered, but I do often

enough that I find those two resources worth my time. Manual. Ha! MS

is too cheap to include a manual.

OK, my bad. You referred to questions you _get_ about Vista rather than

questions you _have_ about Vista. So, with this misunderstanding put

aside, let me ask you: if Vista works perfectly, and if your

comprehension of Vista leaves you with no unanswered questions, then why

are you complaining about the need to refer questions about Vista that

you _get_? Why don't you consult the mighty oracle resting on your

shoulders and deliver the answer, instead of obliging your supplicants to

scramble around on various help forums?

No, I'm not kidding. RTFM means a whole lot more than a paper manual.

Simply put, it means do your homework.

Paper manuals largely disappeared years ago for many reasons with a

few being:

1. Many never read their manuals, some leaving them in the original

boxes and eventually throwing them away never having been used.

2. Eliminating paper manuals saves $ for manufacturers by eliminating

printing costs, distribution costs etc.

3. Environmentalists liked the idea since less paper means less trees

cut down.

There are probably other reasons, but those are three I quickly

thought of.

The above applies to many manufacturers not just Microsoft.

btw, don't u think "DAGS" would have been more appropriate than "RTFM",

since there IS no manual??

or you could just condense all those reasons down to the REAL reason--COST.

Not really, that's what it's always meant, or at least since Windows

3.0 days....

Perhaps, but I think the manuals being eliminated is the result of

many things.

Narrowing it down to just one and ignoring others can give a false

impression since there multiple benefits.

Although I do believe cost was a major factor.

as with most things, it's all about the bottom line: leaving out the

manual saves on printing, packaging, and shipping costs. all win/win

items for the mfgr.

You're close. I just moved to the Philippines the first of the year. No such
