Guest TheBoBrown Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I accidentally loaded a program called trovi.com to my system (Windows 8.1). I spent 5 hours removing it and its associated crud, including a program I got from Cnet.com, which was supposed to be a safe program downloader and which is the program that added this freaking malware. I followed the directions on these two pages: http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/company/blog/how-to-remove-trovi-search http://www.safebro.com/trovi-com-virus-remove I didn't fool around with any of the registry stuff because I don't think I'm qualified and I don't know whether it's necessary. I could not locate any hidden files when I did a full computer search and uninstalled everything, and I removed all cookies from my browsers (Explorer and Firefox) and also reset Firefox to its default version, and removed the trovi file from "old Firefox files," so I can't find anything now that has anything to do with the malware, except in the notification tray at the bottom of the screen. What is still in there that I want out are these: 1) CBSI.AppStore.Main.exe ("Download app: No updates available") 2) clmtmngui.exe ("SearchProtect") I was unable to uncover the second item when I did a full computer search, including hidden files, in the control panel. So I don't know where it's pulling these icons from. let's see if I can insert a screen shot of my local files: I understand that's where everything is hidden... Is there a folder there I should be looking into? Finally, if you think I don't need to worry about the notification icons I am so worried about, please tell me and I'll stop worrying about it and just hide them. Thanks so much. Continue reading...
