I have a problem in Word. Can I save my files/folders & re-set or re-install it?

I am using WIN XP PRO SP 3.0 32 bit

While in Word, I tried to add a button (undo) to a toolbar, didn't work, now I cannot use the 'File' button, it's on the main toolbar, (file, edit, original view etc etc....)

I am having to use the limited resource of the icons only....plus it's not been working properly for a while before that....it's just a vague thing, I'm a novice here, know only the basics....Is there a fix for this, or can I re-install Word, if so, how do I save my files/folders before I do it? Also, how do I do it, I need detailed instructions, I find the on-line Microsoft official instructions hard to follow, which is why I came to the forum....

One more thing, I have been creating a 'guest' account for my BIL to use when visiting from another State, & I tried to use Word in there, but it says I need to re-install, but it needs the product key. My BIL bought this version for me as a birthday gift, copied it to a CD, which I have....installed it for me from that CD.....but, product key? Eeek....

I use Word a lot & need it to work properly....do you think I have a virus or whatever? If so, what do I do next. Please, help, I am an aged person on a fixed Govt income, so cannot afford a new WIN 8 machine...I WAS saving up for an external hard drive, now I'll have to save up for a new computer, as well I guess...sigh

I am also running Malwarebytes & Avast as my protection, & have recently cleaned out my computer of adware etc...My browser is Firefox, with Chrome as a back up....

I need help, do I sound confused? Well, I am....but I do my best. Hope that is enough info...

Thanks in advance,

Sylvia
