Guest SkittleLinux18 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 As a clinical mental health counselor, and one of the few who specializes in philosophy, I see many of the lies that go unnoticed in my field. The biggest one of them all being Cognitive-Behavoiral Therapy (CBT). For those of you who don't know, CBT is a type of therapy that says all of your emotional and psychological problems stem from what's called "cognitive distortions", or thinking errors--systematic errors in information processing. In other words, a person doesn't have depression because their life sucks, they just <i>think</i> their life sucks. Never mind all the real-world, real-life facts that may adequately explain why a person's life could suck: "Oh, you are sad and hate life because your parents abandoned you and you've been living in abusive-like foster homes? That's a cognitive distortion known as all-or-nothing thinking and you need to reframe that into something more positive." And people actually believe this sh*t "cures" psychological distress.
