Scanning multiple pages into one pdf file using Windows 8 Fax & Scan and a Brother MFC-7420

When I attempt a new scan with the feeder (scanning one side) selected, the scanner makes each page into a separate file that is read by the photo program rather than Adobe. In addition, the Brother scanner was reset so that it will no longer scan multiple pages into one file using my Brother program that is loaded into my old computer using Windows 7. How can I get back to simple B&W scanning of multiple pages into a single Adobe pdf? Thanks
