Windows 8 / 8.1 reinstall after OS change?

Hi there, I bought a laptop with Windows 8 last summer and have recently changed the OS to Ubuntu, I want to go back to Windows 8. I did not make a system restore image because I was unable to at the time. I know windows 8 stores registration keys in the BIOS and was wondering if there is any way to go back to windows 8 legitimately, without having to buy a new copy.
