Windows 8 laptop always loses network connection when the power cable is removed

Hi!

 

 

My HP Pavillion laptop works like a charm on Windows 8 except for one regard - whenever I take out the power cable I lose all network connections. I don't get any error messages - it just disconnects all connections. Furthermore, when I plug the cable back in the networks still won't connect and I have to restart the laptop to regain my connections.

 

 

No problem thinks I - it must be my power settings. In I go to the power config screen and check to see if the power config for "on battery" is set to lose connections - but I find that the configuration is the same as "plugged in".

 

 

Now I'm stumped. I don't know enough about computers to know where to go next. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
