Guest DougGinnings Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I've been running a Lenovo 64 bit Windows 7 SP1 system for several years and noted that a couple of Windows updates would not run. After trying several online suggestions to get these "critical" updates to run, I made the mistake of doing a system restore, going back several years. Now Windows is royally screwed up with many programs that depend on network interfacing not working at all or in a limited way. .NET Framework 4 and .Net Framework 4.5.1 appear to be corrupted and FIX IT attempts do not fix the problem Attempts to use system restore to go back further in time have not helped. Both Firefox and IE will not work, and attempts to install new versions give me an error saying my backup space is too small, but when I try to add 50 to 100 GB space to the backup (which is available) the update does not occur and I have to stop the install. Currently when I attempt a Windows update, I get an error that says "To Check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows update. Your Automatic updating settings will not change. To install the update, Windows Update will automatically close and re-open. " When I click "Install", there is no visible evidence of Windows Update closing, but it does roll to a new error Code 800B001. When I look up fixes for 800B001, I get and then get an error 80004005. There are fix IT files for this error, but I get no relief from this either. Lenovo software is also not updating properly. I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Continue reading... Quote
