Guest JTBR Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hi all I seem to have a magical operating system which seems to have a mind of its own and is causing me worry. It would be appreciated if someone could help me. Question 1- How do I prevent applications opening documents I didn't 'clicked' to open or haven't used before? When I open the application Notepad++, it sometimes contains a document that I haven't opened. Is this something to be concerned? Question 2- Other than netstat, how do I view all networks and protocols via cmd? Question 3- In the control panel, Windows firewall states that I'm connected to "guest or public networks". How do I become not connected? Question 4- Other than installing a virus, how else can windows 8 perform tasks not specified by the user? Or are they magical and I must bear and grin with the disruptions? Question 5- Why do the same actions produce different outcomes? For example, I drag and drop to copy files from one location to the other. But sometimes, it either creates a shortcut or it doesn't work. Background info - As far as I know, I'm the only one who uses my computer - I've pulled out my wireless card - My firewall has been set to block all connections (most rules against any remote or local computers) - Control panel shows: no network adaptors, I'm not connected to any networks in the network and Sharing Center. - Most Network adaptors have been disabled, though I'm not sure about Realtek PCIe GBE family Controller and RAS Async Adapter as these icons are greyed out. The icons won't disappear after I select uninstall and reboot. -I currently have remote assistance unticked in in the system properties. However, I will need to use remote services in the future and don't want to delete the programs. Looking forward to any replies. Thank you in advance. Continue reading... Quote
