Windows 8.1 update failed with the code 0x80004005(0x7000c)

Hi,

 

 

I reset my laptop back to Windows 8 after I failed repeatedly to apply the mandatory update KB2919355. I wanted to install updates, apply the 8.1 update, and then try reinstalling KB2919355. However, I am currently unable to apply the Windows 8.1 update from the Windows store. A few pertinent facts:

 

• I have scanned for & installed all Windows & driver updates post reset.
  
• This is not a dual-boot system
  
• All programs, User directories & the OS are installed on one partition (C: drive) - no links used to map directories
  
• It has no anti-virus installed (I use Windows Defender)
   
  
• My userid has administrative rights
  
• sfc /scannow returns no errors
  

 

That said, everytime I download the Windows 8.1 update from the store, it fails towards the very end. Here is a sampler from towards the end of WindowsUpdate.log (I have saved a copy of the entire file so please ask for more details if necessary):

I have read the log line by line & have not come across any other error besides the one(s) reported after 'Installer completed'.
