Best free anti-virus for Windows 8.1

Hi,

 

 

I realize Windows comes with Microsoft Security Essentials, but my computer has been acting up and I'd like to get a deeper scan if possible, without compromising MSE. I'd like to try something else out, even if it's a one-time deal. I'm having a few problems with my computer (lost IE, which has been addressed numerous times in another forum - still no resolve and I don't want to do a restore, too many apps to reload. I'm losing volume randomly on videos embedded in emails or on Youtube, and my keystrokes are registering fast, slow, delayed, etc., randomly, especially in my gmail account. Also, scrolling is stilted at times). I've already tried eliminating apps that may generate high energy at start-up. I'll redo if need be. I'd like to do a deep once over and start from there.
