Does MC Security Essentials disable desktop gadgets?

After installing MS Security Essentials yesterday, I see now that my desktop gadgets have disappeared. When I tried to add them back through Appearance & Personalization/Desktop Gadgets, I find that link no longer opens. Any idea what's up? I had used only the gadgets available on the computer - never pulled any in from online sites.
