Configuring ports to original configurations for device connectivity

My u600 USB mobile device has worked fine for me since I purchased it to replace the OverdrivePro 3g mobile-hotspot earlier this year. Other issues that occurred brought my attention to different settings enabled through my adapters as well as Bluetooth capable software that did not come through the manufactures updates. When I tried to reset the config to how it was originally, I lost the ability to connect at all using the USB device. I have uninstalled, and installed the connection software 5 times, as well as updated basic devices drivers and port resetting. Seems like the shadow copy ? service is helping the device to re-install every time I plug into my comms or change ports.. At one time there was 9 different modems (same device just diff comms) I have tried some networking prompts in admin mode and it did not take long for me to get that it was an intricate mess. I have seen the posts about incompatibility with win 8 and this device, but wondered if this was the case here, or something else? Any ideas other than what I have tried-would a reset of my pc to original install help?
