Hi,

First, please be patient. I have not used a form like this before.

I have an Acer One Netbook. It came with Win XP OS installed. It is authorized OS and I registered it with Microsoft. The computer worked great for a couple of years. It abruptly stopped working. After testing I installed a new motherboard with Intel CPU. The MB / CPU are exact replacements with matching numbers to the original. All of the remaining components including the hard drive and all applications are original. The computer is now working. The computer boots to DOS and is working. It will not boot to the Win XP OS on the hard drive. I have tried booting in the available options in DOS including the original hard drive, and an external DVD ROM with the restore DVDs I made when I purchased the unit, and other restore DVDs I made with other Win OS computers I have.

I understand Win 7 and Win 8 OS do not operate if the MB / CPU are replaced. Is the same true with Win XP? Meaning, will I ever be able to repair the computer with the original Win XP on the hard drive? I have read conflicting opinions.

If I cannot restore the original OS, what do I need to do to install a new authorized version of Win XP OS?

Thank you for your help.

David
