XP updates wiped out/corrupted .Net4 and .NET3.5

Running XP SP3.

 

 

Now nothing requiring .Net4 or .NET3.5 works and I cannot reinstall .NET 4 or .NET3.5.

 

I am absolutely certain the problem was caused by one or more XP updates. Nothing else was installed between the time when utilities using these .NETs worked and then when they didn't.
