want to replace win 8.1

I have a fire insurance replacement computer. I thought I would try Toshiba laptop "Satellite e55t-a running win8.1 x64 natively. In all my years of using windows, it is the worst configuration and I have used everyone of them. This toshiba does not seem to function with the operating system very well either. I have tried returning it to best buy but they wont take it back. I have a warranty but BB says Toshiba is responsible and toshiba says BB is responsible, thats when I can get someone who speaks english. I have read the first thread but it provides little, I want to replace this with a comparable x64 linux system. I am an artist by trade and education and use most of the available art programs as well as blog clients and the like. Has anyone quit using win8.1 x64 and actually done this?
