ssh bash script

Greetings,

i have a script which will scp a file from a remote server. Sometimes the remote server may not respond right away so im am trying to have my scp wait until the connection establishes. I tried setting the ConnectionTimeout variable for scp to 120 but it doesnt help. Any suggestions please?
