I use Windows 7 on an HP Notebook.

I know that when I run a scheduled (weekly) Windows Backup to my external HD it creates a System Image which shows in the folder 'WindowsImageBackup'.

At the same time it Backups the Data shown in the 'C:\User' folder into a folder on the HD '(computer name)-PC'. The Data Backups accumulate until I choose to Delete some. The size of the 'C:\User' folder doesn't change much - around 22 to 23 GB.

The problem I have been having for a long time is that now & then the Data Backup folder shows a 'garbage' size. For example ~

'(computer name)-PC' ~

2014-06-01 21.7 GB

2014-06-04 21.6 GB

2014-06-04(2) 0.4 MB

2014-06-05 6.5 MB

Currently, 'Windows Backup\Manage Backup Space\Data file Backup\View Backups' - shows ~

04/06/2014 to 04/06/2014 21.76 GB

04/06/2014 to 05/06/2014 21.66 GB

That seems to refer to the two 'good' Data Backups but with different dates. That leaves me extra confused.

Overall I have no confidence in the Windows Data Backups because I would never know which folder to use for a Restore.

I regularly do a direct Copy of 'C:\User' to the external HD, from which I can do a direct Restore if necessary, so I am protected.

I would like to know why I have this problem with Windows Data Backup, how to fix it, & how to restore my confidence in it.
