Can I set all my files as read only so no virus can damage my usb flash drive? please how so?

I always work using my usb in different computers and many of them are infected with viruses, so I must often format and re-format my usb and lose all my files again and again. Now can I set all my files as read only (or something like that) so no virus can damage my usb flash drive? can I do that manually by a command line or is there any software that can perform such task? please how so? thank you
