Installing Windows 7 to a Windows XP laptop

My wife has an old Laptop running Windows XP. I have a brand new version of Windows 7 never used on any PC and would like to install this on her laptop. I have saved all necessary files and folders for her. Can I just do an install of Windows 7 on her lappy and if so are all the drivers and utilities on the Windows 7 version that I have? I have a 32 and 64 bit disk but no drivers and utilities disk. Will I be able to complete the install? Any answers would be helpful, thanks in advance.
