xubuntu Firefox downloads executable files but will not execute them.

I just asked the forum to help me put a system together. They did. I chose xubuntu. The user Elija Gold let me download xubuntu iso. i used pendrivelinux.com universal installer to place/burn the image onto my usb. The usb did boot up xubuntu. I found firefox is the browser. I used the browser to download some programs. when i clicked on the download button on firefix browser I found that none of the exe programs would execute. Example: mcafee site advisor. When i click on this exe from firefox downloads icon list. nothing executes.

IS PROLEM BECAUSE SYSTEM IS BOOTED FROM A USB? tHE HARD DRIVE IS WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL.
