Guest Richard Devine Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Volvo announced the new XC90 a short time ago and today is back with yet more details on its interior workings, and it's good news on the CarPlay front. Alongside built in technology from HERE, Volvo has confirmed – as expected – that Apple CarPlay support will be included. From the official press release: The XC90 also becomes the first Volvo car to offer Apple CarPlay, which brings selected features and services familiar to iPad, iPhone and iPod users directly into the car via the large centre console touch screen display. Users will immediately recognise the well-known icons for their basic Apple applications, such as phone, messages, music and navigation. "Apple's clean and intuitive user interface is a perfect match with Volvo's Scandinavian Design approach and our focus on fluid functionality," The good news for prospective buyers that don't have an iPhone is that they'll be well catered for with in-car goodies. iPhone owners will be able to connect their phone to the car and get all the benefits that brings, including support for some third-party apps and voice controlled calls and messaging. The XC90 will be unveiled in full later on in the summer ahead of a public unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in October. So if you're lining up a big new Volvo, it'll be your iPhone's best friend.
