Hello Microsoft Community………

Last week my sister dropped-off her old desktop computer at my place, she said she wants me to pick out any of the hardware if needed, and to throw the system out, but she eventually wants the hard-drive back for security reasons. She and her husband bought the desktop brand new at Best Buy in 2004.….she said she last used it in February of 2014.

OK, here are some of the specs for the system:

Emachines Desktop Model: T2625.………

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM……..

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU……..

It has all necessary hardware, plus it has the Windows XP Home Edition OEM sticker on the case. She never updated or added any hardware or software. But here is where my problem is........actually two. 1) Last week the first thing I did was wipe (erase) the hard drive (I thought she had the XP recovery disks……but she doesn’t)!!!! Can I install XP using the product key on the XP sticker and will I need the reinstallation media? Which leads me to my second problem, where can I get just the media disk?

I realize that Microsoft ended support for Windows XP in early April 2014, but if the hardware still works good and is compatible, is it worth the effort to upgrade to Vista? Or is it best to just “part” the old desktop.

Jimmy
