Guest Jujujulie Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I've had a recent call and, because I am not computer savvy, it has scared me as past calls have been able to do. I was threatened with having my registered license ID on my computer cancelled which I was told would make the computer unusable and would follow me to any subsequent computer which would also make it inoperative. The pressure tactics are very effective when you don't have the knowledge to act appropriately... We did the following (removing parts already covered here): Hit ctrl + windows keys, then entered outlook/safe(couldn’t find same screen again, did restart in normal status from DOS mode) Black box like DOS appeared with ...juliecarter> prompt Entered eventvr (Event Viewer Snap-in)...etc. Please -- some reassurance: Can she cancel this ID and can it put my computer out of commission? I did put the computer into safe mode on her instruction during the call, then restarted it in normal mode off a DOS prompt-looking black screen (right?) Have I undone what I was instructed to do? This lady had a lot of 'cohones' -- she phoned back the very next day even though I said I was going to check this out with Microsoft!! Just so she's on record here (both were voicemail; one business): Sharon: 315-642-4364 (private/home voicemail); missed company name 855-234-8747 (business voicemail; unavailable & no messages) Could someone confirm/advise me on my questions above...I am edgy that I am still vulnerable from the call...thanks!
