All,

As serious programmer, not much interested in the "play" most engage in, so audio, video, gaming has not been used by yours truly, but recently discovered a show "Alaskan Bush People" from Discovery that I want to watch.

I found the show on a torrent link site and downloaded the 4 existing releases of the show, but when running it through the default video/movie player "Dragon Player" only got "freeze frame" display, though audio was fine.

Reached out to a friend of mine that views movies all the time on his Ubuntu box (he runs U 12.04 LTS Gnome and I run Kubuntu 12.04 LTS). He told me to install "smplayer" so I ran the apt-get installs needed and now get the errors/results:

  • When SMPLAYER runs, get an mplayer4 error,
  • When Dragon Player runs nothing at all happens

I was working on something else and found that mplayer2 is installed, so checked that in synaptic and found it true, so where is mplayer4 error coming from?

Running re-install of Dragon and all other players in synaptic, hope this fixes most if not all but not holding my breath.

Anyone else had problems loading movie/video players?

How did you get them fixed?

Cheers!
