Guest Adrienne821 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I have been deflecting calls from people who say there is a problem with my computer, claiming they are from "Windows Tech Department." A woman just called. She said her name was Fiona and her ID number was 1104. Her call back phone number is 1-866-539-8674. She was very nice, but persistent. I got her information to call her back. She said that every time we get on the Internet, some virus or damage of some sort is entering our computer. She wanted me to get on the computer right then, and she would show me all the error messages or some such thing. I said my husband was using the computer and that I was right in the middle of something, which was true. I do know that we received an error message that Windows XP is no "longer protected by Microsoft" and that we should basically buy a new computer. Is this related? What does it exactly mean that Windows XP is no longer supported? Does Windows have anyone receiving messages and error codes from individual computers and pay people to call users and warn them of upcoming computer demise from threats? That calling us part just seems unlikely. Is there a Windows Tech Department that calls computer users proactively? Is there anything I should be doing besides using Norton Anti-virus or McAfee (or whatever my husband has on this computer) to protect us from viruses and hackers? Thank you for replying.
