Guest Basje Timmer Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Recently, I have bought a Windows 7 upgrade (a file called ' Dutch_Windows_7_Professional_SP1_W64_X17-59236.img'). Now I've burnt this image to dvd and am trying to install, but not having any success. When I start the computer with the disc inserted, I get the usual message 'press any key to boot from disc', which I do. Then, a white progress bar with the text 'loading files' appears. After the progress bar has filled up, for just a second or two, I see the text 'Starting Windows' and then the machine reboots. And that's it, I can't get any further. I have taken several steps to ensure this is not a badly burned disc or a hardware malfunction: - I have burnt and tried two dvd's. Same thing happens with both. - I have tried both my desktop (a fairly new PC, with UEFI) and my laptop (vastly different hardware, old school BIOS) and several virtual machines. All these machines are known to work correctly (I'm typing this from one of them). All give the same results. - Also, on the virtual machines I tried booting the downloaded image file directly (not from the dvd). Again, the same thing happens. So. Does anybody have any idea what's going on? What can I try? I feel the problem occurs at such an early stage that there is little I as a user can do, but I'm not a big Windows user so maybe someone else has an idea. thanks, Bas Timmer Continue reading...
