Cannot install windows 8 to 8.1 upgrade - error 80072f78

I have tried to install updates prior to upgrading to windows 8.1. While the critical updates appear to be installed via the auto update setting there are some optional updates that failed to install on manual selection. Error code 80072f78 appeared. I have used all the windows troubleshooting apps/programs but the issue is still remains.

 

 

 

Also have tried to download the windows 8.1 upgrade but this also fails to download. Error 8007f78 appeared as the reason. I have searched the microsoft community site but have not found any fix here.

 

 

I temporarily shut down the antivirus but that did not solve the problem. I have a wifi connection but have tested that and there does not appear to be any issues. Are you able to help?
