Guest CatrionaDodd Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 My laptop currently has monkeytize sapping the life out of the browser. It only appears to be affecting Google Chrome, not internet explorer, but as far as I can see it is advertising in both computer accounts, but Chrome is having a hard time even launching since then. I have scanned the computer with Defender and Sophos ad am now trying Avast, but they have all found nothing. Incidentally a file named END has appeared under Windows (C:) around the time the problem started. It is only 2 bites big and claims to be published by Microsoft but I found a piece of malware also claiming that yesterday. I am cautious to permanently remove END and so it is currently just sat in the recycling bin. I also set all files to visible in the hopes of finding something there, and searching by the time modified to see if there was anything I didn't recognise, but no. I have reset my browser many times and disabled all extensions and the only place I could find anything remotely suspicious was in the admin account where there was an extension I didn't recognise. I have since deleted it but I am still having the problem. Any suggestions on what to do? This adware/virus is basically invisible to the computer. Very annoying. Is there any way I can manually quarantine this file? Also is monkeytize actually that dangerous, or is it just an inconvenience? P.S. I will try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome after the scan. P.P.S. My definitions are all up to speed (although it took two attempts, for an unknown reason it failed the first time and this was after I had noticed monkeytize, so maybe that attempted to disable it or something?)
