Guest SkittleLinux18 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 My dad's computer got hit with CryptoLocker a few months ago: it trashed everything. Fortunately for him, he uses Carbonite and I had his computer ghosted on my file server back at my house. That was an easy fix. However, he did have a thumb drive plugged into that got encrypted. I've been poking around with it in linux and can't get the damn thing decrypted... which I finally discovered this morning is due to CryptoLocker replacing the original files with encrypted copies and holding the originals hostage for the specified amount of time. After that time runs up, they are deleted forever. There are some really sick people in this world. Thank goodness Linux can't be hit by CryptoLocker.... oh wait... supposedly it can. Yeah, right. Bwuhahaha.... I'll believe it when I see it... or actually find a case of it in a google/bing search. I made this message to cryptolocker the night after I restored my dad's image.
