My compaq laptop 2100 won't boot

This Compaq 2100us was running xp sp3 w/Net and lubuntu 14.04 in a dual boot config

deleted lubuntu, reinstalled win sp1 and updated to sp3 from a self -extracting upgrade on a usb. (From ms downloads)

 

Installed IE8 and all was running fine.

 

 

When I power up I get the Compaq screen with the [esc - f2 - f12 options]

 

 

pressing f2 displays "entering setup" and does nothing

 

 

after powerup agian

pressing f-12 displays "booting from LAN" and does nothing

 

 

after powerup again

pressing Esc. displays the following:

Prees <f2> ro enter Setup, <f12> to boot from LAN

 

 

after powerup again

Pressing f-10 displays "starting dianostic" and does nothing

 

Pressing ANY OTHER key at this point does NOTHING !

Is this a FIXBOOT , FIXMBR , TOASTED HDD Or A dead CMOS battery ?

 

Can anyone help !!
