Laptop Internal hard drive turned external hard drive not showing data, can't access data

I've encased my dead laptop hard drive that was used on a Windows 7 system, and made it an external hard drive, but once I plug it into my new Windows 8 computer using a USB 3.0 cable, I get two drives showing up, but can't access data from either. The first drive that appears is labeled System Reserved that shows 59MB of 99MB free, while the second drive is listed as a lettered drive, but no label or details-like size or available space are listed. When I click on it nothing happens, and the computer window/folder's address bar just grows/progresses right in green, while the led on the hard drive case flashes red and green, though nothing ever happens.

Any suggestions? I think my Windows login password is the same as on the previous Windows 7 hard drive, but the actual login name may be different, I don't know if that matters or not.

Thanks!
