Virus prevents access to Control Panel in Windows 8

Both a colleague and I have both experienced similar problems over the last two days on out home PCs.

 

 

In W8, when I try to access Control Panel from the pop up on the right hand side of the screen, it just 'glitches' and takes me to the tile (splash) page. Similar results when I try to access the Control Panel through file selection.

 

 

Has anyone else experienced anything similar, and if so, do you know what the causeis? I recently had to delete a PUP (trovi search engine), but my friend had this happen out of the blue.

 

 

Seems suspiciously like a virus.

 

 

Any thoughts anyone?
