Cannot install Windows 8.1 to old XP platform

I bought installation disk. When I insert the disk to drive I receive the following message " The procedure entry point_Cxx Frame Handler could not be located in the dynamic link library msvert.dll" Can anyone help with this? I cannot install the start disk.
