Posted May 13, 201410 yr Two days ago I ran a partial SE scan with no problems found. Yesterday the SE icon disappeared from the bottom line and when I try to open it from the Start programmes, I get the following message: microsoft security essentials this probram is blocked by group policy. For more information contact you system administrator. This is a home computer and has never been part of a network and has a basic windows home package on it. I can access SE from the control panel. When I did, the malware protection was off. I didn't turn it off. I turned it back on, but still can't scan and get the message above. When I try to scan an invididual file with Security Essentials I get the message: Security Essentials was unable to scan the selected file. I downloaded Microsoft Safety Scanner from the microsoft site and ran it last night, a full 4 hour scan, and it didn't find anything. Microsoft Defender is stopped, but I expect this is because I have SmEssentials turned on. Even though it is there, I'm not sure it can do its job.
