Guest Meninga Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Hi My question is whether it is possible to change the security settings in Windows 8 so that it is not possible to do a reset of Windows without first entering an admin password? The situation is as follows (for those that are interested why I'm asking): - My 13 year old son tends to play games well into the night past his curfew so we used parental controls to limit the time he is allowed to use the computer - It took him literally 2 minutes on google to find a video showing him how to reset Windows starting from the login screen without needing the admin password so that all the settings are reset and he can play as long as he likes - So of course he selected the option to wipe all the data off the computer (which was luckily backed up) - However he has set himself up as the administrator now so no one else can log onto the computer and use it and is refusing to divulge his password so we can set ourselves up as users - I could do the same trick in order to gain access but then it becomes a bit farcical having to do a reset every time we want to use the computer and reinstalling applications etc - It seems a bit of a hole if someone can do this sort of mischief without an admin password, so hopefully there is some way of turning it off Thanks in advance for your help Continue reading...
