Guest robertjames1962 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 The laptop only had 40 gig hard drive,so during install of win 8,decided to format the disk and perform clean install.during the download of new win program. The DVD ROM,started to freeze up and would not continue install,after only several minutes of transfer. During attempt to clean, fix DVD ROM, I broke the mechanism,that feeds the eye ,across DVD.To make more brief, laptop is ,several years old,and not worth repair of Rom device. That resulted in the laptop not having an operating system.Cannot use USB as a boot option,the results, were ,when turning on computer,short and sweet in top left corner,no NTDLR files,which means no boot.Gave up on that task. New problem is ,I put an 80 gig hard drive in,to replace the one,that is missing the files.but it only loads up to the diagnostic screen.and will not boot,this one also has, win xp .
