My Dell Windows7 often 'runs away' with the cpu at 45/50 percent usage even when i'm not running any programs. I see that process mcshield is very active and no other process is running. In PROPERTIES I could reduce its priority, but I get dire warnings not to do so. When I checked the reduced priorities box, got the warning, and then hit CANCEL, the programs stopped running. During all this time the I/O light for the hard drive was solid green.

My question is, what is the purpose of MCSHIELD, and can I cancel it or disable it?

Thanks,

Vince
