Is "Zero Day Exploit" virus one,& the same as the US/UK govs. warning?

My question (like many out there) concerns the slated fix by Microsoft for Explorer (8) announced for May 13.

That is the warning by US,& UK governments to stop using Explorer until then.

However I received a Windows Update May 2 "Windows XP Security".

Did this patch the virus "Zero Day Exploit" ? --

*Is this the SAME THREAT as the warning? Is it now fixed,& SAFE to use Explorer? Regards,Doug
