Posted April 28, 201410 yr XP, Networking, Cable Modem. Do I have to use Dhcp because I don't have anything between me and the router? I watched hours of stuff about networks and no one ever went that far into anything. According to their scematics, the Cisco, or other, went between their machine and the cable box. I am set up with static addresses (most moviemakers didn't care for that sceme), and every thing seems to be fine, but I have several other [not sure what to dos]. For starters: Net bios over TCPIP, WINSOCK, do I need? Okay, I should have tried to track all this down, I should have written it down before I got here. Is there a way to save a draft of this and I can drive around the site for a while? Now, I have been getting all this good advice from Youtube, and I bet everyone is probably giggling at me because you get ten different opinions to the same question. I have to add this. You can add memmory to your system for free!!!! Yeh, you just go here and change this number there, bam, more memory (Ram). It has taken a while, but to some it may be a joke, but sometimes I can't tell when they are joking. **** yes, I'll go change a few settings. OOOPPPsss. Spybot, Yikes, it hacked me up when I wasn't looking. DNS servers,....Monitor Drive..., Link Layer, ....packet scheduler, and now all of a sudden the TCPIP6 is suddenly there. I never saw a video on any of these, except the 6, they were running 8.1. Cool. I just hate to bog everything down by adding all these other things if I don't need to. My settings seem to be working alright but at times things get a bit iffy. Would setting these other things make the program more stable, faster, or is it just the way it should be done?? Hope you all can remember when you had no clue, "What the Heck do I need a Winsock for"?? I live in the desert. Continue reading...
