can a toshiba c855-s5308 windows 8 be downloaded with windows 7

I have a 2012 toshiba c855-s5308 windows 8 and it is reset to factory settings. I am finding windows 8 to hard to understand. Can I take windows 8 off and put windows 7 on it and will it work fine?? I'm not computer savvy. installed memory 4.00 gb

If it can be done, I see that there are free windows 7 downloads on line but are they safe?? Or better to buy the windows 7 from like Amazon
