Posted April 23, 201410 yr Hello MS Community: Last night, 04-21-2014, I "almost" became infected by the so-called FBI MoneyPack Virus/Ransomware/Scam. I had just logged-onto www.detroittigers.com to see how the Tigers lost again. I noticed a little pop-up window on the bottom of the screen asking me for an answer to some question, either "yes" or "no". I guess that no matter what answer I was to have chose (yes or no), the FBI Ransomware would have installed! I immediately turned on the Windows Task Manager and quickly turned-off all the tasks that were running, via hitting End Task. Whether that was the correct movement, I can't say for sure, but I did see that all-too-familiar web page that one gets when infected by the FBI Virus........but seconds after ending tasks with my Windows Task Manager, all my Internet Explorer pages were deleted, and I actually felt a little pride in me :) I then restarted my desktop pc, and everything was fine. My next chore was to update my Norton AntiVirus Online and then do a Full System scan.......again, everything cool! Next I downloaded the Norton Power Eraser (NPE) from the Symantec website: https://security.symantec.com/nbrt/npe.aspx After running the NPE, everything was still fine. OK........my question to this community is this: Does anyone know of a good and safe software tool to run (hitmanpro or malwarebytes as examples)? Again, my desktop pc is running fine......it isn't locked or anything like that. If I had been infected by the FBI Virus/Ransomware, there would be NO WAY I could be using all these programs. I would much rather use caution than have to go through what I did in February 2013 when I was infected with the FBI virus.......I eventually re-installed my Windows 7 dvd to get rid of the FBI ransomeware, 14 months ago. Last night was a good scare.......but to play on the safe side I would like to know if I should run a few software tools (such as the NPE that I did run last night)......anyone know any others?
