I built a computer for my wife and it has performed wonderfully until a month ago when she told me she thought she had a virus because her PC was really slow. She was correct and I found and cleaned several threats from her machine. Even created a Kaspersky boot cd and did a cleaning from that. I have gotten rid of all detected viruses at this point. I have run full scans with Kaspersky, AVG, Norton 360, Spybot, Adaware, Webroot and Hitman Pro. All of these have reported no threats. Machine was still painfully slow so I started following threads on here. I have used msconfig to take everything out of the startup. I have optimized, defragged and gotten rid of unused programs. I have been following threads and doing all the suggestions that I have found for over a month and still crawling along. I used a XP Boot timer to see how long it was taking for the computer to boot up and it came back with 770 seconds or almost 13 minutes. The two big time consumers according to the XP Boot timer is the services.exe and svchost.exe both of these taking over 5 minutes. Any thoughts that have not already been posted on here? Thanks.
