Posted April 16, 201410 yr Hi, I have owned my HP laptop computer with Win 8 since 3/2013. Everything was running fine up until about the beginning of 3/14. One day I closed the monitor up and put it aside although some typical sites were still 'up'. Came to open it again about an hour later and found out it had completely shut down, power button unlit etc. When I turned it back on it told me it had shut down improperly. it also had Google Chrome asking me if I wanted to restart everything I had up. So I did that. Did this a couple of times afterward - I closed the lid, came back and it was fine! Then it happened again. Once I left it on for nearly 2 days in sleep mode and yet the windows came back on when I opened it (like it should). Then later that day, the problem repeated. in other words this is a VERY sporadic problem but happening more and more often. As long as the monitor cover is up and running it's fine. I am not sure what to check. This WAS around the time I tried to upgrade to Win 8.1 but not sure if it's related. I am not even sure 8.1 downloaded properly. I have made sure that it doesn't go into hibernate at all but that doesn't help. Not that it matters. This computer doesn't display this problem each and every time I close the monitor. My husband checked the list of downloads and has deleted the ones that didn't download properly. It's also been suggested that I try cleaning out the dust and doing a registry update. I am in a deadzone for cell phones and our wifi card doesn't always work properly. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it? Bear in mind that I am seriously illiterate when it comes to fixing problems with computers so layman's explanations would be appreciated. Continue reading...
