Hello,

I have a managed VPS running CENTOS 6.5 x86_64 virtuozzo.

After performing an update to deal with the Heartbleed vulnerability as advised here - cpanel.net/heartbleed-vulnerability-information/ - I attempted a graceful reboot.

Unfortunately the server hanged during the reboot, causing WHM and hosted sites to go offline.

My hosting support managed to get the server rebooted. As I have had this issue of server hanging once before during reboot, I asked them if they knew what was causing the issue - They responded as follows -

Quote:

We have turn off V-swap for your server and rebooted it.

I don't know Linux, but I'm guessing V-swap is some sort of virtual memory? Would this cause a server to freeze during reboot? Or are they barking up the wrong tree?

I'm wondering what the implications are of not having v-swap running?

Hope someone can advise.
